FAQ
Questions, answered.
The short version of how Filu works, what it can see, and what happens to your data.
What is Filu?
Filu is a personal-finance app that reads your bank SMS and email so you never have to log a transaction by hand. Every purchase, transfer, and receipt is captured automatically and turned into a clear picture of where your money goes.
How does reading my bank SMS work?
An Apple Shortcut hands each new bank SMS to Filu the moment it arrives. Filu parses the amount, merchant, and currency right there on your device and files it as a transaction — no server ever sees the raw message.
Does Filu read my whole SMS inbox?
No — iOS doesn't allow any app to read your full messages inbox, and Filu wouldn't want to. Instead you set up a Shortcuts automation that passes just one bank message at a time to Filu, triggered only when your bank texts you.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Messages are parsed on your device, and what's stored lives in your private account, encrypted at rest. Filu never sells your data. See the security page for the full details.
Does it work for cash spending?
Yes — add a cash transaction manually with the "+" button whenever you spend, or tag an ATM withdrawal so Filu knows it left your account as cash.
Which banks are supported?
Filu supports many Egyptian banks along with a growing list of Gulf and wider MENA banks, plus common international SMS formats. Check the banks page for the current list.
How much does Filu cost?
Filu is free during the beta. If we ever introduce paid plans, we'll be fully transparent before charging anything.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Signing out wipes your local session immediately, and you can request full account deletion at any time.
Is it on the App Store yet?
Filu is launching soon on iOS. Join the beta now and you'll be first to know when it lands on the App Store.
Is there an Android version?
Filu is iOS-first because it relies on Apple Shortcuts for automatic SMS capture. An Android version is being explored.
